Joe was a "frescort", a friend for hire, who worked for My Best Friend, Inc. and was found dead. Joe was the lynchpin of Calista Cod's plan to keep her son distracted while she snooped around in his life, being sought by two separate clients. He appears, in his brief post-mortem conversation, to have enjoyed his work, although this may be a testament to the efficacy of the job training.
